The Short Version of a Long Career

Music has been my passion for over 50 years.  I've been performing and composing for most of that time, and teaching for over 40 years.  Those numbers shock me sometimes, but music has kept me young!  Today I feel more excited about what I do than ever before...whether it's composing music for the new CD project, growing as a trumpet and piano player, learning more about my new synthesizers, or helping my students learn more about the world of music and their enormous potential.

As a freelance trumpet and piano player, I've performed as a soloist, and with ensembles of all sizes...intimate duos, the big production shows in Reno, jazz bands, salsa bands, rock bands, mariachi bands, wedding bands, pit orchestras, festivals, recording studios, radio, TV, nightclubs...the list goes on.  I've also been an arranger, producer and recording engineer for other musicians, and have served as an arranger-composer for chorographers, radio, TV, film, and corporate videos.

As a music teacher, I've taught privately in my own studio and at the college level, taught several college courses, given clinics in schools, served as a judge at a jazz festival, and even taught at a two week workshop for teachers.

Since my pivotal mid-life crisis, I have essentially dropped out of that world of freelance performing and arranging (with a few exceptions), and have instead focused more on following my own Muse.  I’ve produced an award winning, critically acclaimed CD (“Hats”), composed pieces for full orchestra, a string quartet (both in a modern, classical style), and for various jazz groups (from duos to large ensembles).  Examples of some of these works can be found on the Audio and Free Sheet Music pages of this website.  My change in direction has also proven that teaching is a much more creative and rewarding endeavor for me than much of the freelance work I had been doing, and that I can learn as much from my students as they do from me.
